Adapted from the genre-bending Star Trek podcast that combines elements of actual play and scripted drama, the Starship Tempest novels take the broad strokes of the podcast’s story and builds it into a fresh setting with original world building. And along the way, it takes some of Star Trek’s most classic tropes where they have never gone before.
The series follows Captain Ryland Maddox as he assumes command of the starship Tempest, one of an elite group of ships charged with carrying out the Interstellar Commonwealth’s most challenging, consequential, and unprecedented missions. Maddox and his crew will have to juggle the competing priorities of exploring the unknown, defending the Commonwealth against hostile aliens, and helping those in need.
In his first year as captain of the Tempest, Maddox and his crew will have to root out spies and traitors from the Commonwealth’s ranks, keep tensions with hostile aliens from erupting into all out war, and survive an encounter with a new alien threat that may be more dangerous than all the others combined.
Maddox and his crew enter their second year as crew of the starship Tempest, helming it through some of the Interstellar Commonwealth’s most important missions. They will face familiar threats of war and intrigue among the stars along with new and unprecedented situations, including keeping a colony from collapsing into total anarchy, preventing the assassination of the Commonwealth’s highest ranking official, and coming to the rescue of another starship, trapped in space by a malicious alien force. And for some, the choices and experiences made the year before will make new their dilemmas that much harder to navigate.
